Cost Management
Cost Management is the core of what we do. Cost Management is about defining and managing costs, and coupled with defining and managing risks, will deliver real savings and add value at all stages of the project lifecycle. At Maltbys we help deliver effective, cost efficient and wherever possible, sustainable design solutions, which realise the key objectives for our Clients to the approved budget.
From the critical initial feasibility stage of a project right through to its completion, we provide rigorous, reliable and comprehensive cost advice on all aspects of the project which enable our Clients to make informed decisions along the way. A list of our specific Cost Management services is shown below, and is divided between Pre-Contract and Post-Contract services:
Contract Administration
The role and skill of the Quantity Surveyor lends itself particularly well to act in the role of “Independent Certifier (IC)” under the latest NZS3910:2023 previously the “Engineer to the Contract (ETC)” or “Principal’s Representative” under the earlier NZS3910; 3915 & 3916 forms of contract.
The IC has a dual role in the administration of the contract, both as an expert advisor to and representative of the Principal, together with, and independently of each party, to fairly and impartially make the decisions entrusted to him/her under the contract.
Project Funder Services
Maltbys will deliver a reliable, independent and realistic evaluation of all of the component parts of a project for the project funder. Maltbys will provide a comprehensive review of the project from inception to completion, helping manage risk by independently maximising the predictability of time and final cost.
Sustainability
The marketability and value of property assets is strongly influenced by sustainability credentials. At Maltbys we have a clear understanding of the issues and opportunities that need to be addressed in any new or refurbishment building project in order to maximise the ‘green’ potential.
As a member of the NZ Green Building Council (NZGBC) since 2007, we are dedicated to championing sustainable, green homes and buildings in Aotearoa. Several of our team members have received NZ Greenstar qualifications and can add value to your project.

In order to obtain a reliable estimate of the cost of your property, a qualified Quantity Surveyor is the construction specialist professional to complete this for your insurance needs.
Development Management
Maltbys can assist by managing the whole development process. Typically this can be by acting as the Client Representative, able to represent our Clients interests to help manage and drive the development process and provide advice throughout the development to ensure the appropriate balance of time, cost and quality to suit the objectives. We can assist, advise and engage a team of Consultants and selection of Contractors who are best placed to help define and meet the objectives and deliver the right result.
