Project Scope:
Western Springs College, built in 1964 on a former landfill, underwent a major rebuild due to subsidence. This provided an opportunity to create New Zealand's first large-scale flexible campus-style learning environment.
The project, completed while the school remained operational, addressed long-term pollution issues. The new vertical campus consolidates 80% of learning activities under one roof (the Main Block), organised into learning hubs with diverse spaces. Other key elements include a gym, a dedicated building for Ngā Puna O Waiōrea (te reo Māori immersion unit), and a performance space. The Main Block's design features a central atrium and integrated specialist areas.
Maltbys Engagement:
Maltbys provided full Professional Quantity Surveying services, including pre-contract, post-contract, and cost management services.
