We’re excited to announce that we have achieved re-certification of our Net Zero Carbon status from EKOS.
Our Commitment to Climate Responsibility
At Maltbys, we believe that accountability is the foundation of sustainability. Achieving Ekos Net Zero Carbon re-certification for our operations reflects our ethical responsibility to reduce our contribution to climate change. We are committed to integrating carbon-conscious strategies into every building project, ensuring that our work supports a greener future for Aotearoa.
Data and Reporting
Our carbon footprint was measured using a medium level of data quality across Scope 1, 2, and mandatory Scope 3 emissions. While some data was estimated, we achieved the standard requirements for certification. This transparency ensures that our stakeholders understand the inclusions – such as staff commuting, working from home, purchased goods and services – and exclusions like freight and capital goods, which were deemed insignificant or difficult to collect.
Reduction Performance and Targets
Since our base year (FY23), we have reduced absolute emissions by 1.02% and intensity emissions by 2.5%, with notable achievements:
- Business travel: Reduced by 33.38% through smarter trip planning.
- Office energy: 2.75% decrease in electricity emissions.
- Near-term: 10% reduction by 2027.
- Medium-term: 15% absolute and 20% intensity reduction by 2029.
- Long-term: 20% absolute and 30% intensity reduction by 2039.
Offsets
We offset 100% (87.04tCO2e) of our operational emissions:
- 73 tonnes CO₂e – through permanent restorative forest units (NZUs) from Arahura Valley Carbon Forest Project in West Coast, Aotearoa New Zealand.
- We also selected suppliers with pre-offset emissions when we could. Therefore 14.46tCO2e were recognised pre-offsets.
Together, we can build a future that honours kaitiakitanga – guardianship of our environment.
